About Jake Blum
I was born and raised in Central Texas and followed in my family’s footsteps to Baylor University. While at Baylor I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Education.
After some thought about my path after college, I chose to pursue the insurance industry. My mother and grandfather both worked in the insurance industry their entire careers. In 2017 I joined the Account Services Team of Lockton Companies, a commercial insurance broker. I assisted the different Commercial Property & Casualty internal account teams with billing, policy work, and other client specific projects.
I moved into the Assistant Account Manager role for the Risk Management – National Accounts team in 2018. Then my role changed to a client services support role, assisting Lockton Clients with their policy renewals and maintaining a database of their exposure information and past policy renewal history. In 2020, I moved into the Account Manager role, dealing directly with clients and assisting them with premium financing, certificates of insurance, policy renewals, and loss and collateral analytics. I parted ways with Lockton at the end of Summer 2024 after 7 years in order to join the Avant team!
My journey to the financial advising world has been an indirect path, but it is something that I have always had an interest in. During the summer of 2024 I had a couple of long discussions with TJ about his work with Avant. I shared with him that I was looking for a change, and we realized the skills I learned in the insurance industry would be valuable to the financial advising world. I am grateful to make the jump and support TJ, Scott, and the team at Avant Financial Advisors. I feel that God has closed a chapter of my career life, only to open another door to this new opportunity.
I spend my free time with a guitar in hand. I initially taught myself how to play in high school, but I am still fascinated with learning new things the longer I get to play. Music and sports are the two things you will catch me talking about the most, outside of spending time with family. If it’s a fall weekend, you will find me at Mclane Stadium cheering on the Baylor Bears with my dad. Trips to the ranch with my nieces and nephews to go fishing or to go for a ride around the property are frequent, although the fish have not been biting lately. But that does not stop us from having fun!
